MISHAWAKA - Rexetta "Rex" M. Deethardt, 82, of Mishawaka, passed away Thursday morning, December 2, 2010 in her home. Rexetta was born on May 26, 1928 in Mishawaka, a daughter of the late Harold and Lillian (Bennett) Shetterly. She grew up in Mishawaka and graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1946.

On May 18, 1947, Rexetta married William R. Deethardt. The couple made Mishawaka their home. Rexetta was employed at one time as lead cook at LaSalle Elementary School in Mishawaka and retired as a photo finisher with Fox Photo in South Bend. She was a member of First Christian Church in Mishawaka where she also belonged to the Christian Women's Fellowship and the Homebuilders Sunday School Class. Rexetta was a former member of Sigma Alpha Sorority. She was an excellent cook and an avid reader. Bill and Rexetta enjoyed playing cards and were long time members of a Pinochle Club.

Rexetta's surviving family includes her husband of 63 years, Bill; three children, Dianne Sue (Harry) Yocum of Mishawaka, Jeffery L. (Heidi) Deethardt of Mishawaka and William H. (Kimberly) Deethardt of Granger; two grandchildren, Andrew (Sarah) Yocum and Matthew (Kimberly) Yocum; and two great grandchildren, Laura and Logan Yocum.

Rexetta was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris Neely and Dorothy Campbell; and a brother, Billy Shetterly.

Friends may spend time with Rexetta's family Monday from 3 - 5 p.m. in Thallemer, Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka. Services will be held Monday at 5 p.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Gregory Timmons officiating. Cremation has taken place with burial at a later date in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Contributions in Rexetta's memory may be given to First Christian Church, Mishawaka. Assistance with memorials is available at the funeral home.
