Obituary
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 19, 2007 at a 1:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St John Berchmans Roman Catholic Church in Cankton for Mabel Babineaux, age 87, the former Mable Hernandez, who passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at 4:00 a.m. in Carencro.
Interment will be in St. John Berchmans Cemetery in Cankton.
Ms. Babineaux was a native and lifelong resident of Carencro. She had been employed at Cankton Elementary for 32 years as a cafeteria worker. Ms. Babineaux, better known as mom to everyone, was a hard worker who was always willing to help anyone in need. She was a parishioner of St. John Berchman Catholic Church in Cankton.
Survivors include one daughter, Vickie Nero and her husband, Clint, of Carencro; four grandchildren, Robert Savoie, Davie Ann Cox and her husband, John, Kenni Lyn Delahoussaye and Kyle Delahoussaye; five great grandchildren, Brooke Richard, Dillon Dugas, Darren Dugas, Devin Dugas and Khloe Venable; and four great, great grandchildren, Tyler Dugas, Heather Dugas, Madysen Richard and Jaci Richard.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Valentine Babineaux; her companion of 27 years, Austin "Tan" Broussard; one son, Carroll Babineaux; one daughter, Cecile Babineaux; a grandson, Mike "Hippy" Savoie; her parents, Fabien Hernandez and the former Amelaide Roger, both natives of Carencro; and two sisters, Merida Babineaux and Georgia Babineaux.
Pallbearers will be Robert Savoie, Dillon Dugas, Clint Nero, John Cox, Ernest Hebert and Darren Dugas. Honorary pallbearers will be Kyle Delahoussaye and Devin Dugas.
Melancon Funeral Home, Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel, 4117 N. University Ave., Carencro was in charge of arrangements.
