Steve R. Anderson, 63, died peacefully on Monday, October 19, 2009, one day after his birthday at his daughter's residence under the care of Hospice of South Georgia. The Tattnall County native had lived in Reidsville most of his life, working in poultry houses in the area. When his health began failing he moved in with his daughter and her family in Jesup. Steve served in the Navy from 1967-1969. He first served on the USS Princeton and transferred to the USS Tripoli. He also served three tours in Vietnam and was part of history when the USS Princeton rescued the Apollo 10 out of South Pacific waters on May 26, 1969. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, hunting and telling stories about his Navy days.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, George and Nadine Anderson, two brothers, Earl and Pat Anderson and two sisters, Gloria Jean and Sybil Grace Anderson.

He is survived by his daughters and sons in law, Renae and Gary Smith of Jesup and Felicia and Chuck Mohler of Richmond, Indiana, son and daughter in law Matthew and Michelle Anderson of Richmond, Indiana, sister Helen Hughes of Reidsville and Connie Mitchell of Claxton, a sister in law, Gwen Anderson of Reidsville, eight grandchildren, Dawn, Dani, Sarah, Jessi, Gary Jr., Alexandria, Charles Jr. and Anthony, and several neices, nephews, cousins and aunts.

Visitation with begin at 10AM, Thursday, October 22nd, 2009 at Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home in Reidsville. Funeral services will follow at 11AM with Rev. Larry Hightower and Rev. R.M. Warren officiating. Burial will follow in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home, Reidsville Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.
