THE DEATH OF JAMES W. MARTIN
James W. Martin, one of the oldest and most highly respected citizens of Stockwell, died of apoplexy Tuesday at the family residence. He had only been ill 11 hours, and his illness was so sudden and the termination so unexpected that the entire community was shocked. He was up in town late in the evening, and went home doing his evening work as usual. He had finished all except getting in the wood, and when he began to place the wood on his arm, he was seen by his wife to let the stick fall, and then he fell and was unable to rise. She ran to him, but could only call help and get him into the house. Soon Drs. Fickle and Butler were at his side, but could do nothing for him. The doctors pronounced it paralysis. Mr. Martin was 80 years, and 4 days old, and had been a resident of Lauramie township for a long term of years. He served his country during the civil war, being a member of the 16th Reg. Ind. Vol. Funeral from his late home at 10:30 Thursday morning, Rev. Frank Mikels of Frankfort will preach the funeral sermon. A widow and two children, Ephraim Martin and Mrs. Harvey Nantz, all residents of Stockwell survive. The deceased was a member of the Christian church and was also a member of Carroll Post No. 393, G. A. R. The funeral will be conducted Thursday morning at 10 o'clock, and the interment will be made in the Stockwell cemetery.
