He was captured "at close of siege" in Vicksburg but was given amnesty. He went on to fight at the famous Battle of Missionary Ridge in Tennessee where he got his thumb shot off, but went on to fight at the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain in Tennessee and the Battle of Atlanta. He surrendered at Chersaw, SC. Military Archives, CSA Military Records.
