Louis Bergem was born near Christiansund, Norway where he spent the early years of his life. He came to this country as a young man, taking up carpenter work with his brother at Brookings, South Dakota. He came to Lake Preston and Watertown in 1891. He homesteaded northwest of Midland on or about 1905. There he spent the rest of his life farming and doing carpenter work. He passed away at the Bethesda Home for Aged at Beresford, S.D. where he had resided since leaving Midland.
