Billy J. Clay, 82, died Friday, Nov. 26, 2010. Graveside service: 2 p.m. Wednesday in Whitt Cemetery in Parker County. Billy J. Clay was born Nov. 18, 1928, in Decatur, son of the late Jewell and Frank Clay. Bill met his wife, Dorothy Saunders, while attending business school in north Fort Worth. They were married on Feb. 18, 1951, in the Saunders family home in Weatherford. Bill proudly served his country in the United States Navy and the United States Air Force where he earned the rank of senior master sergeant. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked as a bookkeeper for McCord, Condren and McDonald; later in retirement, Bill and Dorothy enjoyed spending their time as dealers at Crowley Collectibles for many years. Bill was a world traveler in the service and a keen student of history, geography and anything military. His love of detail led him to take courses in photography and he kept a home darkroom as part of his hobby. His vegetable gardens were legendary and his gentle spirit led him to be an avid bird watcher and rose gardener. Bill is remembered for his devotion to his wife, Dorothy; as a kind and loving father to his children, Donna, Debra and Billy Ralph; and a proud grandfather of Paul and Brittany. Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy, and his son, Billy Ralph Clay. Survivors: Daughters, Donna Hagan and her husband, Michael, of Waco, Debra Strandberg and her husband, George, of Weatherford; grandchildren, Paul Hagan and Brittany Hagan of Waco.
