Teddy B. Close, age 95, residing at Homestead in Centerville, formerly of Plano, Iowa, passed away Sunday, June 02, 2019 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville. Ted was the son of Clyde L. and Ethel (Loughridge) Close of Plano, born February 20, 1924. He graduated from Centerville High School with the Class of 1941.

Ted was united in marriage on April 1, 1945 to Thelma N. Gorden. They resided on a farm near Plano, where they raised their four daughters. Ted lived on the same farm, except for the time he spent in the U.S. Army during World War II, until he moved to Homestead in Centerville in the summer of 2018.

Ted was a long time Farm Bureau member. He also served on the Seymour School District’s Board of Directors for several years. One of his proudest moments was in 2012, when he was invited to participate in the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight to visit the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC.

Ted was a member of the First Baptist Church in Centerville, and more recently attended the Plano Christian Church. He served as treasurer of the Little Flock Chapel and Crossroads Cemetery Association. Ted bowled on leagues in Centerville and on a Corydon league until he was 93. He also enjoyed playing cribbage and entering area tournaments.

Ted was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and two brothers, Otto and Richard (wife, Katherine Wales) Close, and an infant sister, Ruby. Surviving family members are daughters, Connie and her husband Gary Cowell of Lancaster, Missouri, Linda and her husband, Foster Grant II of Bloomfield, Iowa, Elizabeth and her husband, Michael Quigley of Crystal River, Florida, and Sandra and her husband, Albert Hysell of Afton, Iowa; eight grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.

Pallbearers for the funeral service will be Nathan Cowell, Foster Grant III, Bryson Grant, Jason Quigley, Rachael Quigley, Brandon Hysell, Nicholas Hysell, and Spencer Hysell. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ashley Cowell, Foster Grant IV, Sierra Quigley, Braedin Quigley, Odanodan Quigley, Isaac Hysell, Levy Hysell, Ryley Hysell, Jemma Hysell, and EllieAnna Hysell.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00AM, Thursday, June 6, 2019 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Pastor Chad Combs officiating. Burial will follow the service at Crossroads Cemetery near Plano, Iowa. A Visitation will take place Thursday, June 6, 2019, with the family greeting friends from 10:00AM-11:00AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Little Flock Chapel and Crossroads Cemetery Association, and may be dropped off or mailed to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
