Jacob Appalsamy was born on February 1st, 1941 to Luke [deceased] and Evelyn Appalsamy in Albion Sugar Plantation in Berbice, Guyana. He grew up in Nigg Settlement in Albion. He was the eldest of nine children: Amy, Martin, Neville, Alvin, Esther, Yvonne, David and Emmanuel.

He married Ruby in February 1962 and together they had six children, the deceased Steve, Rachael, Desmond, Becky, Hannie and Audray.
He had nine grandchildren: Alicia Kanhai, Christopher Kanhai, Jennifer Kanhai, Jessica Munnilal, Justin Munnilal, Nicholas Janmahamad, Mark Anthony Thuraisingham, Rosemarie Appalsamy and Samson Appalsamy.

He was father-in-law to Dinesh Kanhai, Sham Munnilal, Camil Thuraisingham and Janet Marie Appalsamy. He was the son-in-law of Madramuthu {Peru] and Etwari Permaul [Bettygirl] both deceased.

He was brother-in-law to Rudy Ramoutar[deceased], Yvonne Appalsamy, Dorothy Appalsamy, Henry Munnilal, Vick Ramcharan, Radica Appalsamy, Vidya Appalsamy, Vernon Permaul [deceased], Eric Permaul [deceased], Rohit Permaul [deceased], Perly Permaul, Ivereen Permaul and Maureen Permaul.

He was the uncle of Benjamin Ramoutar, Ann Lutchmidut, Vincent Ramoutar, Rosemary[ Raoff] Ramoutar, Sharon Rampertab, Tony Ramoutar, Brian Appalsamy, Dane Appalsamy, Monica Jonhson, Neil Appalsamy, Joe Appalsamy, Roy Appalsamy, Karen Appalsamy, Norman Munnilal, John Munnilal, Vijay Ramcharan, Raj Ramcahran, Dayo Ramcharan, Sharda Ramcharan, Sarah Baksh, Sheena Appalsamy, Serena Appalsamy, Sephra Appalsamy, Vera Girdharry, Navita Mangal, Sunita Sukhai, Lalita Permaul, Babita Permaul, Sudesh Permaul, Terry Permaul and Nadira Permaul.

He was the nephew of Ruth and L.Satnarine [deceased], Peter Approo[deceased], Lilboy Approo [deceased], Daniel Approo [deceased], Amie Tilokie [deceased] ,Betty Rawana [deceased], Bidya Gopaul[deceased], Madan Gopaul [deceased], Angad Gopaul [deceased], Kisto Gopaul[deceased], Baba Gopaul [deceased], Ivy Venkersammy [deceased], and Eto Venkersammy.

He was the cousin of Harry, Reddy, Ellen, Cilla, Mabel [all deceased], Edna, Krishi, Boypree, Baby, Reeni, Brother Banka, Lynette, Violet, Virginia, Sisto, Rudolph, Randolph, Baba, Rita, Marlin,sunita, Verone, Data, Stanley [deceased], Monty, Anne, Jackie, John, and many more too numerous to mention.

Jacob Appalsamy attended J.B. Cropper School at Albion until age 14, where he excelled in all academic studies. Circumstances beyond his control made him leave school to work at the Albion Sugar Plantation where his father was the bookkeeper.

He worked as a young boy of 14 at the Albion Sugar Estate until he migrated to New York in 1980. Subsequently after, holding a few jobs liike book-binding for a big publisher he moved to Florida. A severe illness made him spend some years in a nursing home where he expired peacefully on July 16 2007 at about 7 o'clock in the morning.

Jacob was a meticulous person who took great pride in keeping a neat personal appearance. He was very frank, and had distinct opinions in which he shared freely. He enjoyed listening to hymns and loved to read his Bible especially the verse Psalms23. He loved country music such as Jim Reeves and Charlie Pride to name a few. He also loved old Indian music and songs from famous singers such as Muhamad Rafi, Pradeep and Mukesh to name a few.

Jacob [CR as he was affectionately known among friends] was very outgoing and loved to have family and friends over for company. He was very generous, and open minded. He was a family man and loved them very much [In his own way]. He was a good storyteller and comedian, telling old Guyanese jokes. In addition to this, he was a superb player of the harmonica, playing songs such as "Om Meri Sohani Sohani" and songs from "Dosti". In his boyhood days, he used to love to play practical jokes on his younger siblings with much detriment to them. He was also a singer for the Dil Bihar Orchestra in Albion, Guyana. He was a connoisseur of fine fine whiskey and tobacco.

In his native Guyana, he loved the outdoors and spent much time fishing. He also loved going to the cinema to see all latest Indian and English movies.

All who knew Jacob Appalsamy will surely miss his charismatic smile and warmth. He will be greatly missed.

A beautiful funeral Service was held for him on Saturday, July 21, 2007 at 12:00 pm, at the Bethel Temple Assembly of God in Lake Worth, Florida. Michelle Ramoutar[Benjie's daughter] sang a solo[Amazing Grace] so beautifully. The officiating pastor was Mike Brummett.

His Interment was at 1:00 pm in the beautiful Lake Worth Memory Gardens. And the Arrangements were held by Dorsey-E. Earl Smith Memory Gardens Funeral Home.
