Ann Steven (nee Ross) was my maternal great grandmother. She was born in Kirkton in the Parish of Kingoldrum, Forfar, Scotland and married John Grant Steven in 1884 at Ladyloan, Parish of Arbroath, Scotland. Her first child, a daughter, was born in Scotland in 1886, however, her son was born in Kimberley, South Africa in 1891. Her husband was employed with the DeBeers Consolidated Mining Company at the time of her son's birth. Ann was widowed in 1899, returned to live in Scotland and then immigrated to British Columbia, Canada in 1914 where she resided until her death in 1922.
