Mrs. Buckles was born July 24, 1917, at Platner to Harley and Kathryn (Copperstone) Cunningham. The family lived southest of Akron. She attended grade school at Ashland and Platner.
In 1931 the family moved to Valparaiso, Neb., In her teen years she joined the NYA and traveled with friends to Blair, Neb., for classes and training.
Mrs. Buckles lived in California and worked in people's homes, eventually moving to Akron to live with her mother. She was a very good waitress and worked in several cafes in Akron.
On Aug. 1, 1966, she was married to Ernest Buckles and has lived in Akron since then. She quit working in the public but was always busy helping others when needed.
Mrs. Buckles had a major stroke in July, 1990, which paralyzed her right side. She was in Denver for therapy for many months. Since then she has been cared for by her husband at home.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her five brothers: Russell, Willis (Pete), Dayle, twin brothers Glade and Glenn, and a sister, Josephine Hutchinson.
She is survived by her husband, Ernest R. Buckles.
Memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Akron.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. from the First Presbyterian Church in Akron with Rev. Susan Spencer officiating. Interment will follow in the Akron Cemetery with Brenner Funeral Home of Akron in charge of arrangements.
