According to "The Shirley Letters", page 44, "The bereaved husband held in his arms a sickly babe ten months old, which was moaning piteously for its mother. The other child, a handsome, bold-looking little girl six years of age, was running gaily around the room, perfectly unconscious of her great bereavement."
It is also mentioned in "The Shirley Letters" on Page 43, that Nancy Ann died September 22, 1851, which does not match the tombstone.
