Geraldine died very unexpectedly Thursday at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City after a brief illness. She was 60 years and 1 month of age. As was her wish, her body has been cremated. Geraldine Kay Koontz, daughter of Archie and Wanda Reed Mangold, was born September 21, 1950 in Pekin, Illinois. She attended school in Green Valley, Illinois and after her education worked in a nursing home. November 14, 1975, she married Wayne Koontz in Normandale Church in Pekin, Illinois. Gerri and Wayne lived in Pekin until 1989, when they moved to Martinsburg, Iowa. Gerri enjoyed crafts and sharing them with family and friends. She also loved nature, especially eagle watching on the Des Moines River and mushroom hunting.
Gerri's family includes her husband: Wayne Koontz of Martinsburg; a daughter, Josette Wabasha and her fiancee, Shaun Gillam; and a son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Rebeckha Koontz of Oskaloosa; six grandchildren: Karri Jo Wabasha, Draven Wabasha, Tessa Jo Puffinbarger, and Dannielle, Luke, and Miranda Darrah; one great granddaughter, Immoria Gonzalez; a brother, Bill Mangold of Bloomington, Illinnois and a sister, Debbie Reed of Oskaloosa.
Besides her parents, Gerri was preceded in death by three brothers: Archie and Terry Mangold and Robbie Reed and a nephew, Archie Wayne Mangold, Ill. Memorials maybe made to her family.
Memorial Service: 2pm Tuesday afternoon, October 26, 2010 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel.
Visitation: will begin at 1pm October 26, 2010 at the funeral home and continue until service time.
