OLNEY — Lola Doherty Shelley, age 77, of Olney, Texas, died Friday, October 22, 2010, in Olney. Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 27, 2010, at the First Baptist Church of Olney with the Rev. Kelly Russell officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Cemetery under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.
Lola was born October 27, 1932, in Hill County, Texas, to the late Cecil Dail and Dora Lee (Pelham) Doherty. She and Lewis Oliver Shelley were married August 16, 1947, in Whitney, Texas. They moved to Olney from Archer City, Texas in 1961. Lola was a homemaker and an active member of First Baptist Church, Olney. She loved her family, her church, her pastor, and to sing from her heart. For thirty-seven years she sang with the "Sweet Adeline's". She is preceded in death by two brothers Johnnie Doherty and Marvin Doherty, and one sister Polly Neely.
She is survived by her husband, Lewis Shelley of Olney; two sons, John Shelley and his wife Kimla of Weatherford, Texas, and Ron Shelley and wife Debbie of Olney; five grandchildren, Matt Shelley and wife Rebecca of Weatherford, Texas, Mike Shelley and wife Kate of Trenton, Texas, Mark Shelley of Denver, Colorado, Sam Shelley of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Madison Shelley also of Weatherford; and one great-grandchild Gus Shelley.
