Mrs. Bartels died at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010, in Heritage Manor of Gillespie.
A homemaker and foster mother, she was a member of the United Methodist Church of Bunker Hill and the AARP.
Born in Carlinville on Feb. 13, 1920, she was a daughter of Ezra and Nellie (Loges) Whitworth. She married Harold H. Bartels on March 24, 1937; he preceded her in death on May 22, 1990.
Surviving are two sons, Ronald Bartels of St. Louis, and Randall Bartels (wife Josie) of Henderson, NV; one daughter, Joyce Staggs of Bunker Hill; a sister, Verda MacDonald of Rosewood Heights; a brother, Lloyd Whitworth (wife Ginny) of Hillsboro; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Other survivors include two sisters-in-law, Mildred Egbert of Portland, OR, and Betty Whitworth of Hillsboro.
