Dora May Baxter Dies January 9th
Mrs. Dora May Baxter, 71, of Route 4, Dallas, passed away at her residence January 9, 1970, following an illness of six months. Mrs. Baxter was born in Bartow County August 17, 1898, daughter of the late John A. Rich and the late Martha Rich. Her husband Zeke Baxter, preceded her in death in 1945. Mrs. Baxter was a member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church.
Suvivors include 4 daughters, Mrs. Lee Taylor, Miss Amy Baxter, Mrs. Caldonia Fuller, all of Dallas, and Mrs. Elizabeth Holmes of Alton, Ill.; five sons, Messrs. James Baxter, Joe Baxter, J.T. Baxter, P.M. Baxter and Nath Baxter, all of Dallas; two sisters, Mrs. Viola Barton and Mrs. Jessie Howe of Summerville; brother, Mr. Arthur Rich; 26 (28?) grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Final rites were held at two o'clock Sunday afternoon, January 11, from Mt. Olivet Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Turner and the Rev. W.S. Shelton officiating. Interment was in the Baxter-Moody Cemetery. The following gentlemen served as pall bearers; Messrs. Oscar Gilreath, Bobby Hammitt, J.B. Johnson, Harrison Baxter, Jesse Baxter and Frank Baxter. Martin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
