Here are a few items from the Salem paper about Virginia. There are quite a few mentions of her visiting her parents in Middleton, usually alone but sometimes with a friend. She also seemed very active in the area with nursing type affairs

Miss Virginia Rupert left for Detroit, Mich., Tuesday, where she accepted a position in a Detroit hospital. Miss Rupert was supervisor in the tuberculin department at Salem city hospital.

This one is interesting to me in that Mrs. Louis Weirick was Leila Mae Faloon. Her husband was the son of George Edward Weirick and Rhea Fern Arthur. Rhea was my paternal grandmother's 1st cousin 1x removed.

On the 1940 census Virginia is a nursing instructor and Leila is shown as a registered nurse. The are living in the Hanna Mullins Nurse's Home with 37 other women.

Salem City Hospital Nurses Alumnae Association, meeting last night in the Nurses’ home on East State St., elected new officers for the year, naming Mrs. Louis Weirick president to succeed Miss Virginia Rupert.

The new officers will begin these duties at the January meeting.

Mr. and Mrs. Arden Cook of Arizona, here for a visit, were honored by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Rupert, Saturday at a turkey dinner. Guests included two former classmates, Mrs. Zelta Trotter and Mrs. Lois Swope and their families, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Rupert, Miss Ada Bierman and George Reifendifer of Salem. Mrs. Cook will be remembered as Miss Virginia Rupert. The Cooks left for Arizona Wednesday morning.Wife of Lem Roland Smith, SSGT US ARMY, WORLD WAR II.

Virginia and Lem are interred together.
