Jennie Curtiss, daughter of Frederick Hyde and Jane Brown Curtiss, was born east of Waverly February 11, 1866, ad died at her home in Jacksonville on December 20, 1933, aged 67 years, 10 months and 9 days.
She was a daughter of pioneer residents of this community. Her father, a native of Connecticut, came to Waverly with his parents in 1837, when he was twelve years of age. Her mother, also, a native of Connecticut, came to Waverly with her parents in 1838 when two years of age. As a girl she attended the Locust Grove country school and the Waverly public school, graduating from the local high school in the class of 1887.
After graduating from high school she followed the profession of teaching for a number of years, teaching the Locust Grove school, a private school at Godfrey and also spending two years in Connecticut where she taught a district school. She joined the Waverly Congregational church during the pastorate of Rev. W. A. Hobbs, in 1886, and remained a member until her death. She was also a member of Rebekah lodge No. 104, of Waverly.
On December 8, 1910, she was married to Frank Henry Huth, of Modesto, and for several years they resided on a farm near Modesto, later moving to Waverly where they resided several years. They moved from Waverly to Pleasant Hill where Mr, Huth died on March 20, 1931. At the time of her death Mrs. Huth was residing in Jacksonville.
Surviving relatives are three sisters, Mrs. Carrie E. Swan, of Sausalito, Calif.; Mrs. Geo. L. Hoppin, of Virden and Miss Louise Curtiss, of Olathe, Kansas; two brothers, William B. Curtiss, of Nameoki and Frank H. Curtiss, of Waverly; one step-daughter, Mrs. Harold E. Scott of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at the residence of Frank H. Curtiss, Friday afternoon, December 22, at 2 o'clock, Rev. W. A. Richards, pastor of the Congregational church of Jacksonville, officiating; assisted by Elder W. J. Campbell, of Waverly.
Burial was in Waverly cemetery, the Rebekah lodge being in charge of the services at the grave.
