ALBERT BUCCI

Albert J. Bucci, Sr.

Age 91, of Newark, passed away at his home, surrounded by loving family, on Tuesday, September 21, 2010.

Albert was born in Wilmington on May 22, 1919, son of the late Guistano and Marguerite (Sisofo) Bucci. A proud veteran of WWII, he served his country with valor as a member of the U.S. Army 3rd Armored Division, valiantly serving in the famous Battle of the Bulge. He then returned home and embarked on a career with Penn Fruit Food Markets, eventually attaining the position of store manager. Upon retirement, Albert devoted much of his time and energy to St. Elizabeth's Parish, commendably volunteering in many capacities. He was a longtime member and Past President of the parish's St. Vincent de Paul Society, served as a Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion, and provided countless hours to church activities such as organizing the annual Catholic Thrift Center clothing collection, maintaining the church, organizing parish votive candles, and assisting in organizing monthly Mass for residents of Hillside Nursing Home. Albert also volunteered over 4,000 hours in hospital ministry at Wilmington General and Christiana Hospitals, visiting the sick every Thursday, and was a 44 year retreatant at St. Joseph in the Hills as a Man of Malvern. He received deserved acknowledgment for his endless compassion and devotion, including being awarded the Order of Merit Award from the Diocese of Wilmington in recognition of outstanding contributions to the Diocese, the St. Vincent DePaul "Top Hat" award as well as recognition for three decades of unselfish dedication, and was listed among the Dialog VIP's (Volunteers in Parishes) in a March, 2000 article. Albert will be dearly missed by the many lives he touched, and will be deeply missed by his loved ones to which he was so unconditionally devoted and endlessly adored.

Mr. Bucci was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Rita A. (Morole) Bucci, and sister, Mary Wiltbank. He is survived by his sons, Lawrence and his wife Judith, Albert Jr., and William and his wife, Lisa; brother, Mauro Bucci and his wife Patricia; grandchildren, Kristin, Philip, Albert III and his wife Emily, Rebecca, Chad and Curtis; great-grandchildren, Alexa, Emma, Nathan, and Kaya; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth RC Church, Cedar and Clayton Sts. in Wilmington, on Saturday morning, September 25 at 11 am. Entombment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church on Saturday morning, prior to mass, from 9-10:45 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. Elizabeth Church, 809 S. Broom St., Wilmington, DE 19805.
