James Franklin Howell was born in Illinois, he was the 11th child of Pvt. Daniel & Elizabeth (Abrams) Howell. His parents moved from Ohio to Illinois where James was born.

When James was about 13 years old his family moved to Missouri. James' wife, Emma, was also from Washington County, IL, but as to how they met and then married I am not sure. James was living in Mo prior to their marriage and her family was not, one really has to wonder about such simple things when we are considering life in those times.

James and Emma went on vacation in 1920 to California where James became paralyzed and he was unable to return to MO until July of 1922 and he was always in ill health for the rest of his life. He was residing in the State Hospital in Vernon County when he died in 1923.

I consider myself very lucky to have a photo of James, it was given to me by another, very generous, Howell family descendant. James' and Emma's son, Harry was my Grandfather and I have very few photos of him because he died when my mother was just a very small child. I wish he had lived longer and then maybe I would know more about my Howell roots.

God Bless you my Great Grandfather, may you rest in eternal peace with our Lord.
