David McGiffin Armentrout died at his home in Lenoir, N C, on Monday, April 3rd, 1922, of pneumonia.
Mr Armentrout was born in Monroe county on March 26th, 1857 and was one of twelve children born to William L and Martha Armentrout. Of these following now survive: James S, of Richlands; Charles, of Alabama; Rev T S, of Wilmington, Del; Mrs B A Sadler of Staunton, Va, and L H Armentrout, of Oklahoma.
Shortly after the Civil War Mr Armentrout moved to what has since been known as the Armentrout farm in Rader's Valley of this county, where they continued to reside and their family grew to manhood and womanhood. Religiously they were Presbyterians and all became members and active workers in the Richlands Presbyterian Church.
The deceased was educated at Hampden-Sidney College and W and L University. After his graduation he taught school for several years, the entered Union Theological Seminary at Hampden-Sidney, graduating in 1892, and was ordained to the gospel ministry in November, 1892. Mr Armentrout had at different times served as the pastor of large churches of this State, Delaware, Kentucky, Mississippi, Texas, Virginia and North Carolina. At the time of his death he was evangelist of Caldwell county, Concord Presbytery, North Carolina, where he had served for more than two years. His entire ministry of thirty years was characterized by a devoted loyalty and consecrated endeavor to glorify God. It can truly be said of him: He was constant in season and out of season, and it shall ever be said: "He, being dead, yet speaketh."
Mr Armentrout was twice married. His first wife was Miss Daisy Brown, of Hampden-Sidney, Va. To this union was born three children, all of whom survive to mourn the death of both mother and father; they are Misses Willie Sue and Daisy Cornelia Armentrout, of Lenoir, N C, and Thomas Ferrell Armentrout, of Richlands, this county. After the death of his first wife Mr Armentrout was married to Miss Douglass Conway, of Morganfield, Ky, who died last year,
Interment was made at Lenoir, N C, where his daughters will continue to reside.
