Mrs. Kate R., nee Metzger, widow of James Bauer, of near Breinigsville, died at her home at 1.40 Saturday afternoon from apoplexy, aged 77 years, 5 months and 12 days. She was stricken two weeks ago and rendered helpless. Up to that time she had been in good health. During her illness she was faithfully attended by her sons and daughter-in-law, who did all they could to make her comfortable. Mrs. Bauer was born in Weisenberg township, a daughter of the late Harry and Elizabeth, nee Acker, Metzger. Her husband preceded her in death fifteen years ago. She was a member of the Lutheran wing of the Mertztown Union church. There remain two sons, Harry J., and Robert J. Bauer, both at home; three brothers, Daniel and Preston Metzger, both of Kutztown; John Metzger, of Maxatawny, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Kutz, of Kutztown, and Mrs. Ida Wilder, of Maxatawny. Three grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held at her late home on Thursday afternoon at 1.30, followed by further services in the Mertztown church. Burial will be made in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. William Dry will be the officiating clergyman.
