Born in Gross Benz, Pommern, he married Emilie Zastrow before coming to America.Their children: Emil, Otto, Robert, Bertha, and Franz Eduard (Frank). Emilie died in Elgin, IL in 1879 and Gottlieb married (2) Mathilda Rabe. After his second marriage, he moved his family to Peoria, IL. One of Gottlieb's sons, Robert, is buried at Ft. Sam Houston National Cem. in San Antonio, TX. His find-a-grave # is 3046272.
