Louisiana Governor. He graduated from Louisiana State University and was an assistant construction engineer of the Yazoo and Mississippi Valley Railroad. He also owned the Fuqua Hardware Company and was general manager of the Louisiana State Penitentiary, (1916-22). In 1924, he was elected as a Democrat the 38th Governor of Louisiana, serving until his death in 1926. While in office he worked to end the violence of the Ku Klux Klan and increased the budget for more construction on the new Louisiana State University campus.
