Mrs. J Forsythe, Longtime Area Resident Dies

Funeral services for Mrs. John M (Lydia) Forsythe, longtime area resident, were held Wednesday at the Faith Lutheran church in Mentor with the Rev T O Carene officiating.

Mrs. Forsythe died on Dec 24, Christmas Eve, the day after her 89th birthday.

She was born Dec 23 1871 one of 12 children of Adam and Maria Nephew in Morrisburg Ont Canada. When she was nine years old, the family came to Polk County.

On July 9 1888 she was married to John M Forsythe and they became the parents of 13 children. The couple was engaged in farming in Tilden township for 50 years. After Mr. Forsythe's death in 1941, Mrs. Forsythe made her home with her daughter and son in law Mr. and Mrs. Frank Casmey of Mentor.

She is survived by a brother, Joe Nephew of Fertile and eight children: Mrs. Frank (Nora) Casmey, Mrs. Mabel Sandoden, Mrs. Wilson (Maude) Tice all of Mentor, also Pearl Leas of South Gate Calif, Mrs. Wallace (Myrtle) Abbott of Duluth, David Forsythe of Mt Union PA, William of International Falls, and Edward of Montebello. Also surviving are 26 grandchildren and 69 great grand children.

Pallbearers were Kenneth Bruggeman, Dale Bruggeman, Lowell Tice, Virgil Tice, James W Forsythe and Richard Forsythe. Burial was in the Maple Bay Cemetery.

The Reese Funeral Home of McIntosh was in charge of the arrangements.
