Alice was the oldest and last surviving child of Harley Oscar and Alma Ida (Moebius) Hake's four children. She was born in her paternal grandparents' (Dave & Alice Hake) home, known as 'The Clubhouse' at Manzanita Beach and raised on Vashon Island, not far from Seattle, Washington. On August 3, 1929 at Duwamish in Kitsap County, Washington, she married Howard Edward Knight (1907-1991) and for most of their 62-year marriage they lived in Seattle. Alice and Howard had two children:
