Daughter of the late Mavis Edwards and the late J.C. Brantley, she lived most of her life in Farmville, NC. She was a member of Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church. She married Walter Avery on July 11, 1935, and instanly gained a fmily of two daughters and six sons. Several years later, they had another daughter and son. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years; her mother, father, brother, two step-daughters, two step-sons; and eight grandchildren. She was survived by a daughter, Judy Beamon (Chuck); son, Carroll "Bud" Avery (Karen); sister, Ophelia Taylor; and an extended family of relatives and friends. Her funeral was held on August 14, 2010, with The Rev. Ben Gibson and The Rev. Ron Braxton officiating.
