I have a copy of a document of Honorable Discharge that reads as follows:
To all whom it may concern, Know Ye, that Oscar F. Botkin, a Private of Captain Allen ? Brooks, Company (?) "F" 2nd Regiment of Iowa Volunteers, who was enrolled on the 1st day of May AD 1861, to serve three years during the war, is hereby discharged from the service of the United States this 9 day of October AD 1861 at Birds Point, MO. by reason of A Surgeon's Certificate of Disability. (No objection to his being re-enlisted is known to exist.)* Said Oscar F. Botkin was born in Morgan County in the State of Ohio, is nineteen years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, Fair complexion, Blue eyes, auburn hair, and by occupation when enrolled, a farmer. Given at Birds Point this 9 day of Oct AD 1861 *This sentence will be erased should there be anything in the conduct or physical condition of the soldier rendering him unfit for the army) (signed by) James M Tuttle
