Hal served as a Corporal & Radio Operator on C-46A #43-47294, 1st Transport Squadron, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Morgan County, Alabama prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on July 16, 1943 at Fort McClellan, Alabama. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being Single, without dependents.

C-46A #43-47294 took off, with a crew of 5, from Bhamo, Burma on a Cargo mission to Kharagpur, India. They were contacted once by radio and were not seen nor heard from again. The entire crew was lost.

Hal was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission during the war.

He was previously awarded the Air Medal.

Hal also has a "Cenotaph" in the Hartselle City Cemetery, Hartselle, Alabama.
