His father, Edward Oscar Matthews, often talked to my grandfather, Harry J. Matthews, as he speculated what Arthur's career in the movies could have been had he not given his life for his country.

After Arthur's death, his wife remarried. Her second husband was Howard G Whiteway. She then changed the name of her only child, Stanley Matthews to Stanley Whiteway.
