BELOVED FATHER AND GRANDFATHER:

Born in Hoboken, New Jersey, 1918 to the late Ralph and Ethel May (Cornwell) Sommers. Came to Albany, NY as a small boy. Served in WWII in the African and Italian theatres. Married Irene Lundgren in 1944. Worked as a truck driver for most of his life.

Survived by three children, W. Ralph, Karen I. and Steven D. Sommers, three grandchildren, Bryan Sommers, Jennifer Sommers and Kimberly Mascord, and four great-grandchildren, Joshua and Kayla Sommers and Brenna and Kennedy Mascord. Past Chaplain of VFW Post 1019 in Albany and long-term member of the VFW.

Dad loved history, talking about his Army days, and a good beer with a bourbon chaser!

My dad passed away due to non-Hodgkins Lymphoma

I found this in my baby book, 11/6/2008:

"Daddy joined the Army March 16, 1942. Stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Went overseas May 18, 1942, to Ireland, then England, North Africa and Italy. Discharged December 5, 1944. Two years, 9 months and 17 days in service."
