Son of Helen George, St. Louis, MO. Crew member on the USS Oklahoma.

Navy Seaman 2nd Class (S2c) George T. George, 26, of St. Louis, Missouri, killed during World War II, was accounted for on Jan. 26, 2017.

George was assigned to the battleship USS Oklahoma, moored at Ford Island, Pearl Harbor, on December 7, 1941. The ship was hit by multiple torpedoes during the Japanese attack, causing it to quickly capsize and resulting in the deaths of 429 crewmen, including S2c George.

After recovery, the remains of most of these crewmen could not be identified. They were buried in Hawaii as Unknowns until 2015, when DPAA personnel began exhuming the remains for analysis. Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) analysis, dental analysis, and circumstantial and material evidence were used to identify S2c George.

He will be buried in the Punchbowl Cemetery in Honolulu, HI, on May 13, 2024.
