SALLIE KATE BROWN
13 Mar 1921 – 24 Feb 2008

Sallie Kate Lamb Brown left her earthly home on Sunday, 24 Feb 2008 to take her place among the angels waiting for her in heaven. She was just 18 days short of celebrating her 87th birthday. Kate was born 13 Mar 1921 in Lafayette, AL and married the love of her life, Dorice Frazier Brown on 3 Jun 1939. They had two daughters, Joyce Faye and Peggy Dianne. Their family life together was cut all too short with the untimely death of Dorice ten years into their marriage. He remained her one true love throughout her life and they are no doubt enjoying a heavenly reunion today.

Sallie Kate was a kind and gentle soul who remained a woman of strength and an inspiration to all who were fortunate to have known her. Her angelic attitude and dedication to serving God and helping all mankind underscored everything she did in life. The example she left was one of love in everything she did to make our lives worthwhile. We could always find both hope and courage just by looking in her eyes. Her words were warm and wise and there was indeed a kindness and compassion that surrounded her life. She will be greatly missed but her legacy of love will live on in all who knew her.

Kate is survived by one daughter, Dianne Payne; a son-in-law, Mike Payne; granddaughters, Buffie Payne & Denise Royal; and grandson, Michael Payne. She is also survived by one sister, Eleanor Cole; three sisters-in-law, Blondell Phillips, Arzelia Messer, and Kitty Brown; and three brothers-in-law, Elton Brown, Ray Phillips and Donald Cole. Additionally she is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews who all loved her.

Sallie Kate was preceded in death by her husband, Dorice Brown; her daughter, Joyce Royal; her son-in-law, Joe Burke Royal; four sisters, Mary Julia Lamb, Lennie Mae Lamb, Ruth Shaver, and Betty Jean Lamb; her father, Arthur Tilden Lamb and her mother, Lennie Lucretia Lamb.

Funeral Services and a celebration of her life will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, 28 Feb 2008 at Sandy Ridge United Methodist Church. Visitation and viewing will be held at 1:00 p.m. on 28 Feb 2008 immediately prior to the funeral at Sandy Ridge Church.
