Good friend, Even though I did not get to see you for the last time before you passed away in the war, you can always keep in mind that you are still remembered and always will be our hero! You make us feel so great because you showed us so much love during the Vietnam wartime, and now that you are lying in a safe place you don't have to ever worry about anything else or even think about anything you went through anymore, because now it is over with and all you have to do now is just rest and let things flow above you. love always and forever, Jamie Gates.

Fellow soldier: funny, after all these years, to remember someone nearly every time I shave. Ken was the 1st guy I knew who just shaved in the shower without a mirror. I remember he told me: you don't need a mirror, you know where your face is". I still shave in the shower without a mirror. Ken. Thanks. Bob Engel, [email protected].

Building 1002, commonly called "The Old Brick Hospital" (because it once was a hospital in the 1940's), at Fort Knox, Kentucky, was dedicated to 1LT Shoemaker on August 9, 1989. I worked in the building at that time and still do. I witnessed the dedication ceremony. Inside the building entrance door, there's a portrait of 1LT Shoemaker and a bronze plaque, which reads: In Memory of
FIRST LIEUTENANT KENNETH R. SHOEMAKER, JR., ARMY NURSE CORPS, 67TH Evacuation Hospital, 55th Medical Group, 44th Medical Brigade, Killed in the Crash of a Military Aircraft 30 November 1967, Republic of Vietnam. Posted by: Donna Moore.
