Rev. Gilbert L. Adolphson, 79, of 1012 Main Street, Henry, IL died at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, September 3, 1987, In Colonial Hall Living Center, Princeton, IL.
He received a bachelor of divinity degree in 1945 from Augustana Lutheran Theological Seminary in Rock Island. He served 22 years as pastor of Swedona Lutheran Church in Swedona and the First Lutheran Church in Sherrard. Later he served as pastor of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Utica for five years, until retiring in 1973.
A member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Varna, he was born into that congregation and retired there.
He was born November 4, 1908 in rural Varna to Fred and Hilma Okerberg Adolphson.
Surviving are two brothers, Carl of Chillicothe and Virgil of Henry; four sisters, Rena Peterson and Dolores Fountain, both of Henry; Helen Johnson of Magnolia and Violet Murray of Lowell, MI. One brother and one sister preceded him in death.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Varna, the Rev. Carl Buettemeier
officiated. Burial was in First Lutheran Church Cemetery # 1, Varna, IL. BVisitation was from 12:30 p.m. Sunday until time of services at the church. Newton Funeral Home in Varna was in charge of arrangements.
