Joshua Samuel "Babe" Ford

Joshua Samuel "Babe" Ford, son of Martin and Jennie Ford was born November 30, 1902 at Beatrice, Nebraska and passed away at Holdrege, Nebraska on June 9, 1989.
At a very young age "Babe" as he was always known, was afflicted with an illness which left him unable to walk. His parents in an effort to find a cure traveled to the northwest by covered wagon hearing of hot springs which might cure him. After returning he received treatments and was again able to walk,
Babe received his schooling at Beatrice, NE graduating from high school there in 1920. He spent some time as a young man working as a ranch hand near Brule, NE. He later moved with his family to the Precept area when he met and married Pauline Volgamore on February 22, 1931. They lived all their married life on a farm 5 1/2 miles south of Beaver City and celebrated 50 years of marriage in 1981. After Pauline's death in May of 1982 Babe continued to farm up until the time his health forced him to move to the Christian Home at Holdrege in December 1988.
Surviving him are a sister Minerva and her husband Evert Vermaas of Lincoln, NE., a daughter Joyce and husband Pat Oatman of Elizabeth CO., a son Willard and wife Mary Ellen of Minden, NE., a son Jerry and wife Janet of Grandview, MO., his grandchildren Steven and Diane Oatman, Denver, CO., Michael and Andrea Oatman, Elizabeth, CO., Connie and Joe Morenzoni of Hayesville, KS., Terry Ford of Chicago, IL., Lisa and Karen Ford of Grandview, MO.
Great grandchildren are Carie Kohlstedt, Dawn Marie, Stephanie, and Lindsay Oatman, Jennifer, and Clinton Oatman, and Joe Morenzoni. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death besides his wife Pauline were his parents, a brother Martin, a granddaughter Cynthia Kohlstedt, a great grandson Joshua Paul Kohlstedt.
He was a member of the Christian Church of Beatrice and later transferred his membership to Beaver City. He was also a member of the Mayflower society.
Funeral services were conducted at the First Christian church in Beaver City, with A.J. Ives officiating.
Casket bearers were Ralph Rorabaugh, Jr., Bill Weaver, Don Woodruff, Dean Weaver, Ron Upson and Jerry Van Matre.
Honorary bearers were Don Kohlstedt, Steve Oatman, Mike Oatman and Joe Morenzoni and Terry Ford.
Music was provided by Dale Fults and Helen Weaver with organist, La Creta Fisher.
Wenburg Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Interment was in Mount Hope Cemetery, Beaver City.
