Thomas is a son of Thomas Scott, and the husband first of Mary Ann (Shirts) Scott, and second Elizabeth (Shirts) Scott. (Mary Ann and Elizabeth are sisters.)

"Thomas Scott died at the home of his son, Sylvester Scott in this township, this county, Oct 23, 1905. He moved to Iowa in 1852 and to Story County in 1856 where he has resided since. Mr. Scott had his share of the hardships of pioneer life and as prober(?), secured also some of the advantages of the prosperity that has come to this state, largely as a result of the efforts of early pioneers.
"He was twice married. His first wife was Mary Ann Shirts. Of four children born to them only one, Andrew Scott, is still living. Of the others, Matilda died in infancy, a son Emmanuel lost his life in the defense of the Union, and daughter, Mrs. Mary Ann Fi()erhoff died 25 Mar 1893.
"After the death of his first wife Mr. Scott married her sister, Elizabeth, who died in July 1880. To this union were born eleven children of whom four are deceased, namely: Thomas, Westfield, Henry and Elizabeth. Of the remainder, Mrs. Elmira Yocum, Sylvester, Marion, Mrs. Rose Ann Ballard and Mrs. Elma Brown reside in this county. Samuel in Washington and David Scott at Marengo, Iowa."
