Mrs. Courtney Gaskill, 97 last October, widow of the late William Wise Gaskill of Hatteras, departed this life on January 9th at the home of her daughter, Mrs. U.G. Stowe with whom she made her home.

Until a short time before her death, she was active in mind and took long walks about the neighborhood. She remembered well the stirring days of the Civil War period when Hatteras was captured by Federal troops.

She was the mother of the late Litchfield Gaskill of Hatteras. Her surviving children are Henry Gaskill, Mrs. U.G. Stowe, Mrs. Lizzie Peele, Mrs. Isaiah Ballance of Hatteras, and Capt. John Curtis Gaskill of Engelhard.

As a member of a prominent and outstanding family, she was universally loved and honored. Her descendants are scattered throughout the world and in the armed forces. A great number of her neighbors came to the funeral and she was laid to rest beside her late husband who died in 1929.
