One by one God calls them home. One more has answered the summons and gone to join the blood washed throng on the other shore. Jacob Samuel Stoops was born September 18, 1832* (*misprint in newspaper -- he was born in 1845) died August 30, 1906. He was the oldest son of a family of six children. He was instantly killed Thursday morning at the residence of Mrs. Sarah Reed, on East Main Street, by a falling wall.
He was married to Mrs. Martha J. Fulton April 11, 1899, this being his second marriage. He leaves a wife and four children and three step children to mourn his loss. On Friday we gathered around the casket that contained all that was mortal of our brother to pay our tribute of respect and sympathy to the bereaved family. He is now clothed in garments of glory that never grow old.
Though his casket was bedecked with beautiful flowers, he is today plucking far more beautiful flowers on the banks of that river where death and sad partings never come.
Short funeral services were held at the house by Rev. Howard, after which the body was taken to Belfast and laid to rest.

FATAL ACCIDENT
Jacob Stoops Crushed to Death Under Brick Wall Which He Was Tearing Down.
Jacob Stoops, 59 years of age, was engaged in tearing down a brick wall at the Reed residence opposite the Children's Home Thursday morning, when the wall toppled over on him crushing him in a horrible manner. Death was almost instantaneous.
When the body was dug out of the debris, the legs were found around the head and broken in several places (print illegible) manner. The accident happened about half past seven o'clock yesterday morning and the patrol removed the body to his home on W. Pleasant street.
Mr. Stoops came here from Adams county several years ago and has worked as a laborer at odd jobs since. He has been serving as dog catcher under the Mayor's orders for several weeks. He carried an insurance policy in the Western and Southern Life Insurance Company which will help the widow, who is left in very meager circumstances, to give the body a respectable interment.
The remains will be taken to May Hill tomorrow morning and interment will be made in the Flat Run cemetery near that place.

CRUSHED TO DEATH
David Stoops Killed by a Wall He Was Tearing Down
A Great Pile of Bricks Fell Upon Him, Crushing Out His Life in the Twinkling of an Eye.
David Stoops was instantly killed yesterday morning at half after eight o'clock by being crushed under a falling wall at the Reed residence on East Main street just opposite the Children's Home.
Stoops was employed by Contractors Taylor and Hopkins, who were tearing down the brick dwelling house, and at the time of the accident was engaged in undermining one of the walls. Suddenly, and without the least warning, a section of the thick wall about fourteen feet long and twelve feet high toppled over on him, crushing him to instant death. Other employees and passers-by went to his rescue and in a few minutes had removed the mass of bricks from the body, but life was extinct. His death is supposed to have been instantaneous. A physician was summoned, but he was beyond aid, and the body was removed to his home in the patrol wagon. He was aged fifty-five years.
