HERBERT 'HERB' EMORY BLAKE, 94 ROCKFORD - Herbert "Herb" Emory Blake, 94, of Rockford died at 7:45 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010 in SwedishAmerican Hospital. Born March 28, 1916, in Aurora, the son of Emory and Elsie (Walters) Blake. Married Mildred S. Jones on June 6, 1937, in Rockford; she died March 10, 2006. Herb was a butcher for A&P, Pacemaker Foods and Hilander until he retired in 1981. He was also co-owner and manager of Jones Quality Foods. Former member of First Evangelical Covenant Church and First Evangelical Free Church. Herb enjoyed spending time in his garden. Survived by children, Marilyn Allington of Rockford and Sharon (Robert) Bushby of Minooka; grandchildren, Kimberly (Stephen) Seth of Lake Jackson, Texas, Diane Allington of Rockford, John (Jackie) Blake of Joliet and Shelley Allington (fiancé, Eric Viall) of Rockford; great-grandchildren, Austin, Nathan and Abby Seth; sisters, Jeanne VanBebber of Fairfield, Calif., and Betty Olsen of Batavia; several nieces and nephews; and special friend and helper, Sandy Berg. Also predeceased by parents; sister, Ellen Kenner; and brothers, Daniel and Walter. Memorial service at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, in Olson Funeral & Cremation Services Ltd., Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., with visitation from 12 to 12:45 p.m.; Maj. Everett Jordan of The Salvation Army will officiate. Private family burial in Willwood Burial Park.
