Ora Irene Fullingim was the fourth of six children born to John Kennedy Fullingim and his wife Emma M. (née Farmer) Fullingim. She was born 27 February 1896 in Emma, Texas. In 1903 she started school in Emma, Texas; in 1905 she attended school in Robertson, Texas. From 1909-1915 she attended Crosbyton Elementary and High School and completed grade eleven. She spent the majority of her life in Crosbyton, Texas.

On 26 May 1915 Irene was married to Romey John Coffey by County Judge Pink L. Parrish in Romey's home in Crosbyton. Together they had two children: Romey John Jr. (1917) and Hazel Marguerite (1918). Romey Jr. never married, but Marguerite was married on 24 Aug 1946. Irene and Romey Sr. celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1965. Six years later Romey died at age eighty-one on 5 January 1971.

Up until this time Irene had spent most of her life in Crosbyton, Texas, where she not only raised her family but also was a Dressmaking Shop owner and sold Avon until she was 76 years of age. She was a member of the Baptist Church and taught Sunday school.

In 1972 Irene moved from Crosbyton to Redondo Beach, California, in order to reside near her daughter. She thrived for the next fourteen years. She once wrote to this writer, "I love [it] here only live a block from ocean. I go to Senior Citizens and Baptist Church all the time."

Irene provided this writer with photos of her father, John Kennedy Fullingim, as well as other pertinent information and photographs of Fullingim family members. In a 1975 letter (Feb 21st) to Archer Fullingim, she wrote, "I never did see [your brother] Bill and wife but that one time, but fell in love with both of them. Fullingims all love each other and we are all akin." In a later letter to this writer (27 Aug 1980), she wrote, "My Dad used to say all Fullingims are our kinfolks. He was really proud of his relatives."

Mrs. Coffey died at age 90 on Thursday, 26 June 1986, at 5:30 p.m. in her Redondo Beach residence following a brief illness.

Irene was survived by one daughter, Marguerite (Coffey) Jones of Redondo Beach, CA; one sister, Dessie (Fullingim) Walters of Irving, Texas; two grandchildren: Denise Jones, Eureka, CA; Morgan Thomas Jones, III, Newport Beach, CA; and one great-grandchild, Justine Jones, Newport Beach, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1971 and by her son, Romey John Coffey Jr. in 1972.
