OBITUARY
Services for Artimese Strauss Garner DEEN, 91, of Lufkin, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the Gipson-Metcalf Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Horace Fletcher officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. "Miss Artimese" was born March 19, 1913, in Angelina County, the daughter of Alta (Baird) and Lee WEEKS. She passed away Monday, November 1, 2004 in a local retirement home. A retired school teacher, she lived in Angelina County most of her life, having taught school in Lufkin and Beaumont for 36 years. She was a member of Beulah Congregational Methodist Church. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Herman and Wanda STRAUSS of Lufkin; 5 grandchildren, Stan STRAUSS of Bryan, Susan COPENHAVER and Amy EBERLY of Houston, Paul STRAUSS of Katy and John STRAUSS of Richardson; 5 great grandchildren; special niece, Nancy SAWTELL of College Station; and lifelong friend, Pearl HAVARD. She was preceded in death by husbands, Paul W. STRAUSS and L. J. (Red) GARNER, and is survived by husband, Lee Roy DEEN. Pallbearers will be Stan STRAUSS, Paul STRAUSS, John STRAUSS, Gene SQUYRES, Gilbert SAWTELL, Frank STEWART and Don MANLEY. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert POLAND, Harrey GESFORT, Vernon BURKHALTER and The Beulah School Class of 1938-39. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Gipson-Metcalf Funeral Home in Lufkin. Gipson-Metcalf Funeral Directors of Lufkin 1515 S.
