James Howard Cross, age 84, of Royse City, Texas passed away on May 26, 2010. He was born in Royse City on May 27, 1925, the youngest child of Robert Alexander and Myrtle (Clark) Cross. Mr. Cross graduated from Royse City High School in 1942 and served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Staff Sergeant in the European Theater of Operations. He received a Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman Badge, Presidential Unit Citation and the Belgian Citation. After the war, Mr. Cross returned to Royse City where he was a farmer and rancher for the rest of his life. He had a wide spectrum of special friends of all ages and never met a stranger. Mr. Cross was baptized at an early age, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Royse City, where he served as head usher for over fifty years.
Survivors include his sister, Bobby Cross Evans, niece and husband, Nancy and Tom Keim, all of Mesquite, and one grand-niece and husband, Melody and Michael Jordan of Grand Prairie.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 29, 2010 at Rest Haven Funeral Home - Royse City Chapel with Rev. Robert Baldridge officiating. Interment will follow in Royse City Cemetery. Visitation will take place Friday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00pm.
