Graveside services for Janice Barley Albright, 88, of Fleming Island, Fla., and formerly of Charlestown, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, at Charlestown Cemetery. She died Friday, June 18, 2010, in Orange Park, Fla., after a short illness.
She was born May 11, 1922, in Steele, Mo., to Effie Lester Barley Fulkerson and Clarence "Dutch" Barley. She attended First Christian Church in Charlestown, was a past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star Blazing Bright Chapter, a founding member of the Jeffersonville, P.E.O. chapter and the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She was a career federal employee serving at the Census Bureau in Jeffersonville. An avid reader and collector of knowledge, she supported the public libraries in Louisville, Charlestown and later Baldwin, Mo., and Fleming Island, Fla.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen Lee Albright; a son, Wayne Douglas Albright; daughter-in-law, Barbara Lynn Albright, of Fleming Island, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Stacy Lynn Johnson and Julia Elizabeth Saldivar, of Fleming Island, Fla., and Lisa Anne Weaver, of Denver, Colo.; three great grandchildren, Katie Lynn Johnson and kyle Dale Johnson, of Fleming Island, Fla., and Elizabeth Lynn Weaver, of Denver, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her husband of many years, Richard Lee Albright; and a younger brother, Donald Gene Fulkerson. She also had a younger sister, Wanda June Barley, who died as a small child in Steele, Mo.
She will be missed by her family, friends and the children from the park that knew her as the "nice lady with the big white dog."
