Raymond E. Schilling made his reputation in the advertising business in Butte. He handled all varieties of advertising – newspaper, magazine, radio, television and other media – as well as being engaged in public relations and management counsel activities and serving as a manufacturers' representative.

Mr. Schilling was born in Butte on August 9, 1903, and received most of the early education in that city. In 1925, he graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia. He has been in the advertising business since 1926.

Raymond served in World War II and achieved leadership in the American Legion. He belonged to many fraternal organizations, and rose to a national leader in the Knights of Pythias auxiliary, the Dramatic Order, Knights of Khorassan.

He was a son of the prominent Sigmund Schilling who was born in Germany on March 11, 1869. His mother was the former Emma Oppenheimer, born in Nebraska on April 26, 1874.

A past grand chancellor, State of Montana, Knights of Pythias, he served as supreme representative and secretary of the foundation trustees. He later became Imperial Pasha of the Dramatic Order, Knights of Khorassan, the fun auxiliary of the Pythias, and in 1955 was the imperial prince, or international head, of this organization. He is also past commander of Mining District No. 6, American Legion, and is active in the Masonic fraternity, being a member of various bodies of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite and of Baghdad Temple, Ancient Arabic order of Nobles of the Mystic Shrine.

Raymond E. Schilling married Helen F. Spencer, a native of Butte, in that city in September 15, 1929. Mrs. Schilling is the daughter of the Reverend Frederick T. Spencer, a pioneer Methodist minister of Butte.
