DAVIS, Andrew A.
He came to Kansas City, KS, from Union Co., IA, between 1872-85.

Andrew A. DAVIS was born 22 December 1844 in Zanesville, Muskingum Co., OH
(source: military pension file, National Archives, Washington, DC). He was
the oldest child of Josiah C. and Eliza (ALLISON) DAVIS. The family moved
to Wapello Co., IA, in the mid-1850s (source: 1860 census Richland Twp,
Wapello Co., IA, p. 644). Young Andrew DAVIS enlisted in Company B, 7th
Iowa Volunteer Cavalry at Kirkville, IA, on 7 November 1862. His father
also enlisted and served with the same Company. Andrew DAVIS was
discharged at Omaha, NE, on 12 December 1865. On January 16, 1867 Andrew
married Mary ROSS in Wapello Co., IA (source: Wapello Co. marriage records,
DAR Library). Mary (ROSS) DAVIS died in Kirkville, IA, in 1868 (source:
military pension file). Andrew's parents moved to Union Co., IA, in 1869,
and it is likely that he moved with them. On May 12, 1872 he married Mary
BRUNING in Union Co., Iowa. The ceremony was performed by B.R. Baker,
Justice of the Peace (Union Co. marriage records, Family History Library,
Salt Lake City, UT). Andrew and Mary had two children: Mary C. DAVIS born
about 1877 (m. William HANSON) and Franz Frederick "Fred" DAVIS born about
1883. Mary (BRUNING) DAVIS died in Kansas City, KS, in 1885 (source:
military pension file). It's not clear when they moved to Kansas or
whether their children were born there, but it is clear that the move
occurred between the time of their marriage in Iowa in 1872 and Mary's
death in Kansas City in 1885. Andrew married his third wife, Charity
Alusilda MOWERY(?), on 18 October 1904 in Kansas City, KS. The ceremony
was performed by Rev. Dr. Bean. In 1905, Andrew DAVIS listed his
occupation as "mechanic" and "RR foreman." He lived at 208 North 5th
Street in Kansas City. In January 1906, he had moved to 635 Northrup
Avenue in Kansas City. His elderly mother, Eliza DAVIS, lived at the same
residence. On February 22, 1906, Andrew DAVIS died of diabetes at age 61.
The undertaker was Daniel Bros., and he was interred at Woodlawn Cemetery
in Kansas City. J.F. HASSEY (HANEY?) was listed as family/kindred in the
death record (source: Kansas City death records, Family History Library,
Salt Lake City, UT).
