Parents Bring Body Here From Mishap Scene In Idaho
HAILEY, Idaho, Aug. 22--(AP)--A spectacular plunge of an automobile from the highway 75 miles north of here claimed its second life yesterday when Gifford Joseph Winkler of Ogden died of a fractured skull.
Paul Taylor, another Ogdenite and a brother-in-law of Mr. Winkler was killed when the car crashed to the canyon floor 100 feet below.
Winkler and five others hurt in the crash were brought to a Hailey hospital.
Mr. Winkler was born April 2, 1907, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of Ernest and Venetia Proctor Winkler. His father is the assistant regional forester of the U.S. forest service in charge of grazing.
The family moved to Ogden in 1916, on the transfer of Ernest Winkler from the forest service station in Richfield to the regional offices in Ogden. Both father and son had lived here ever since that time.
Gifford Winkler was employed by the United States bureau of public roads in 1925, and had been in the employ of the bureau constantly since that time. At the time of his death, he was working on the instrument detail on the Hailey, Idaho, federal aid road project.
Surviving are his widow, an infant daughter, Inez, his parents, and the following brothers and sisters: Orval E. and Sheldon Winkler, Mrs. Raymond Price and Miss Ella Winkler, all residents of Ogden.
The body of Mr. Winkler arrived in Ogden this morning, accompanied by his parents, who rushed to the Hailey, Idaho, hospital on receiving word of the accident. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Lindquist & Sons.
