Mrs. Bennett Battle [Corene Simmons] Brooks
Final Rites Today For Mrs. Brooks, Prominent Citizen.
Mrs. Corene Simmons Brooks died Wednesday morning, December 26, in a local hospital following an illness of about two weeks.
Daughter of the late A. J. and Agnes Sherhouse Simmons, she was born in Effingham County, Georgia. She had been a resident of Montezuma since her marriage to the late Dr. Bennett Battle Brooks of Macon County. Mrs. Brooks was a member of the Montezuma Methodist Church.
She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Fred Guerry, Mrs. R. C. Collier, Jr., both of Montezuma; Major Corene Brooks of Itazuke Air Force Base, Japan; Mrs. R. D. Johnson of San Lorenzo, Calif.; Mrs. Jack Comer of Lake Wales, Fla.; one sister, Mrs. Charles A. Greer of Macon; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning [today] at eleven o'clock from the Montezuma Methodist Church with the Rev. L. E. Williams and Rev. C. G. Ward officiating. Interment will be in Felton Cemetery.
Dr. Tom Adams, Dr. Fred Adams, Edwin M. McKenzie, Jr., J. M. Levie, Watt Brown, Herbert McKenzie, Tom Marshall and Edgar Walker will be pallbearers.
Smith-Tindol Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
