Morris W. Martin, 81, of Roxton died Friday, Jan. 26, 2007, at his residence.

Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, in the chapel of Starrett-Rose Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Moore officiating. Interment follows in Hickory Grove Cemetery.

The family receives friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

He was born June 14, 1925, in Roxton, a son of Herbert Lee and Minnie Martha Springer Martin. He graduated from Roxton High School, then entered the U.S. Navy, serving in the Seabees during World War II. A member of First Baptist Church of Roxton, he was a past member of the Roxton Lions Club and a charter member of the Roxton Horse Club. He was a past member of the school board of the Roxton Independent School District. He married Billie Clark on Dec. 25, 1948, in Paris.

He was preceded in death by a son, Dave Martin, on Jan. 15, 2000; a brother, Jack Martin; and sisters Dorothy Bailey and Mary Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Billie; two sons, Mark Martin and wife, Paula, of Paris and Bruce Martin and wife, Leslie, of Blossom; three grandsons, Chris Martin and wife, Kara, of Brookston, Jonathan Martin, Roni and Dawson of Paris, and Casey Martin and wife, Ashley, of Roxton; a granddaughter, Jennifer Martin of Denton; a brother, Dr. Ralph Martin of Dallas; two sisters, Jo Maul of Baytown and Martha Rae Liles and husband, Truman, of Dallas; a brother-in-law, Luther "Smitty" Smith; a sister-in-law, Garland Martin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Named to serve as pallbearers are Casey Martin, Jonathan Martin, Chris Martin, Don Nelson, Monty Scott, David Pitcock, Jeff Holcomb, Tim Walsworth and James Childress.

Honorary pallbearers are Buddy Rutherford, Marshall Wilson, Mack Wilson, James Deatherage, Jack Mason and B.F. Clark.
