Gladys Maxine Elwell Backus was born in Bath Twp, Bath, Indiana. Parents were Maude Estelle Smith Elwell and Ora Murphy Elwell and were both born in Bath Twp, Indiana. She married Frank Sill Backus, Jr on October 25, 1928 and had one daughter, Judith Elwell Backus Wells, who was born December 18, 1938. She and her husband were close partners and loved playing bridge and just being together. She had many friends during her years in both Cincinnati, Ohio and Dayton, Ohio and also in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, where she and Frank retired. She loved to read but was in ill health for several years. She died 9/7/1985 in Ft Lauderdale, Fl and the creamins were scattered in the Gulf of Mexico. Her memorial, placed by her daughter, Judith Elwell Backus Wells, is in Lot 7, Section D of College Corner Cemetery in College Corner, Indiana.
